Bahan Konduktor, Isolator dan semikonduktor

A.  Konduktor

Konduktor Panas merupakan benda-benda yang mudah dan cepat mengantarkan panas.

Bagian yang mudah menjadi panas pada Setrika yang berfungsi sebagai panas yakni permukaan setrika yang terbuat dari logam. Logam merupakan benda yang mudah menjadi panas. Jadi, logam memiliki sifat jonduktor panas.

Contoh benda-benda yang menggunakan bahan konduktor untuk menghantarkan panas adalah sendok, garpu, pisau, teflon, wajan, teko dari alumunium dan kuningan, kawat tembaga, kawat besi, kawat alumunium, botol kaca dan perhiasan emas, dan lain-lain. 

Konduktor kaitannya dengan listrik adalah zat yang dapat mengahnatarkan/mentransfer arus listrik, baik dalam bentuk padat, cair atau gas. Karena itu konduktif disebut konduktor. Secara umum, semua jenis logam adalah konduktif. Emas, perak, tembaga, aluminium, seng, besi memiliki resistivitas yang lebih besar. Jadi emas adalah konduktor yang sangat baik, tetapi karena sangat mahal, secara ekonomi tembaga dan aluminium yang paling banyak digunakan.

B.  Isolator

Isolator Panas merupakan benda-benda yang tidak mudah dan lambat menghantarkan panas. Bagian yang sulit menjadi panas pada setrika berfungsi sebagai isolator panas. Bagian tersebut yakni pegangan setriak yang terbuat dari kayu atau bahan sejenis plastik. Kayu dan Plastik sulit menjadi panas. Jadi, kayu dan plastik memiliki sifat isolator panas. 

Benda-benda yang termasuk isolator misalnya teko platik, kayu, kaos tangan dari woll, karet gelang, ban karet, kardus, tempat makan plastik, dan lain-lain.  

Isolator dalam kaitannya dengan listrik adalah bahan yang tidak dapat atau sulit untuk menghantarkan muatan listrik. Dalam bahan isolasi terikat erat elektron valensi dalam atom. Bahan-bahan ini digunakan dalam perangkat elektronik sebagai isolator, atau menghambat aliran arus listrik. Isolator juga berguna sebagai beban atau pemisahan antara konduktor tanpa membuat arus yang mengalir keluar atau hanya antara konduktor. Istilah ini juga digunakan untuk nama alat yang digunakan untuk mendukung kabel transmisi listrik pada tiang-tiang listrik.

Beberapa bahan yang termasuk isolator dalam artian tidak menghantarkan listrik yaitu Kaca, Kertas, atau Teflon. Ketinganya  adalah isolator yang sangat baik. Beberapa bahan sintetis masih “cukup baik” digunakan sebagai insulator kabel. Isolator yang lain adalah plastik atau karet. Bahan-bahan ini dipilih sebagai isolator kabel karena lebih mudah dibentuk / diproses sementara masih bisa memblokir aliran listrik di tegangan menengah (ratusan, mungkin ribuan volt).

C.  Semikonduktor

Semikonduktor kaitannya dengan listrik adalah bahan dengan konduktivitas listrik antara insulator dan konduktor. Semikonduktor juga disebut setengah bahan elektrik konduktif. Sebuah semikonduktor adalah sebagai isolator jika tidak diberi arus listrik dengan cara dan sejumlah saat ini, tetapi suhu, aliran tertentu, prosedur dan persyaratan fungsi kerja semikonduktor sebagai konduktor, tertentu seperti penguat saat ini, penguat tegangan dan power amplifier.
